Chapter Nominations
The Cathedral’s Chapter Nominating Committee invites members of the congregation to prayerfully consider offering their gifts for service on the Cathedral Chapter. The Chapter plays a vital role in shaping the mission, vision, and ministry of The Cathedral Church of St. Peter. Below you’ll find information about the role and responsibilities of Chapter members, as well as a short online questionnaire for those discerning a possible call to serve.
We are grateful for your willingness to consider this important ministry. Please review the materials provided and complete the form by November 26th. Should you have any questions about the process, feel free to contact the Nominating Committee here.
What is the role of the Chapter?
The Chapter of an Episcopal Cathedral has three primary responsibilities:
To take care of cathedral finances
To take care of the cathedral buildings
To choose individuals to fill various positions of leadership and representation, specifically: the choice of a dean and the choice of delegates to the diocesan convention
The chapter also serves as an advisory council to the dean/provost who by church law is the cathedral’s chief liturgical and pastoral officer.
What does a Chapter do?
The Chapter along with the Dean/Provost set the vision for ministry for a cathedral. The Chapter meets each month to review and approve normal monthly operational expenses, receive reports from various committees, plan and approve capital improvement projects, and attends to concerns within the cathedral.
