Absalom Jones + The Theology of Soul Food
Saturday, February 1
We will honor Absalom Jones, the first Black priest in the Episcopal Church, on February 1 with a celebration of Black Southern foodways, a worship service, and a festive soul food meal.
Our special guest is Adrian Miller, author of the James Beard award-winning book, Black Smoke: African-Americans and the United States of Barbecue. From 1 to 2 pm Miller will speak in Harvard Hall on “The Theology of Soul Food,” tracing how soul food evolved from a cultural term rooted in spirituality to an iconic cuisine, shaped by African-American church life. He explores the deep ties among soul food, faith, and African-American identity as it spread from the rural South to cities nationwide. For more details and to register (it's free!) visit spcathdral.org/absalom-jones.

In 2025 we want to find new ways to connect and grow in our faith together. Grab a second cup of coffee and a donut and join us from 11:45 am-12:15 pm.
Craft-ernoon
Sunday, February 16 from 4:00-6:00 pm
Let's gather as a community for an afternoon of making, puzzling, and gaming. Bring your own craft project to work on (crochet, paint-by-number, collage-making, you name it), favorite board game (everything from Uno to Settlers of Catan or the game you got for Christmas with 30 page instructions), or get started on one of the many fun puzzles on the puzzle table in Harvard Hall. Don't have a favorite craft or game? Come with a curious spirit, ready to try something new!
Pizza available ($5 donation) and bring a snack to share.
This is for the whole Cathedral family, all ages, lifetime members, and newcomers. An RSVP is helpful but not required.

Lent is a 40-day period leading up to Easter and begins with Ash Wednesday. This season of self-examination and self denial corresponds to the 40 days Jesus spent in the wilderness after his baptism in the River Jordan by John the Baptizer. The Cathedral will have services with the Imposition of Ashes at 8:00 am, 12:00 pm, and 7:00 pm.
Following the 7:00 pm service, we'll walk over the Hollander for a quick dinner together. Please RSVP to Hillary so we can make a reservation.
