Local journalist, author, and historian Jon Wilson will speak about his newest book, Days of Fear: A Lynching in St. Petersburg. Co-authored with Jane A. McNeil, Days of Fear is the story of the gruesome murder of photographer-turned-developer Frank Sherman in 1914 St. Petersburg and the days of terror that followed, leading to the calculated lynching of John Evans, a Black man accused of the murder.
There will be time for questions after Wilson’s talk, and a reception follows. Bring your copy for signing if you already have one, or we’ll have copies available for purchase.
As a faith community, the Cathedral is committed to continuing our journey towards Becoming Beloved Community: a community in which we strive for justice and peace among all people and respect the dignity of every human being. An important step in this journey is learning about and acknowledging past harms that have been done. All are invited to join us as we peel back the layers of our city and come to a greater understanding of this pivotal time in St. Petersburg history.
