Choral Evensong

SeptEvensong.png

The Cathedral Quartet will sing and Dwight Thomas, Canon for Music and Precentor, will be the organist. The service includes Philip Radcliffe’s Responses, Stanford’s Service in B-flat, and the anthem “Exsultate justi” by Ludovico Viadana.

Charles Villiers Stanford (1852-1924) was an Irish composer, conductor, and music teacher who greatly influenced the next generation of composers, including Ralph Vaughan Williams and Gustav Holst. The “Evening” service is part of the Morning, Evening, and Communion Service in B-flat, which a reviewer called “a major milestone in the development of Anglican church music, representing the harnessing of Brahmsian symphonic technique to the needs of the Anglican liturgy.”
