The Family of God
September 30 + October 7
Almighty Father, whose blessed Son before his passion prayed for his disciples that they might be one, as you and he are one: Grant that your Church, being bound together in love and obedience to you, may be united in one body by the one Spirit, that the world may believe in him whom you have sent, your Son Jesus Christ our Lord; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
For this week's installment in the Living Faith series, it's all about the heart. Canon Brandon Peete reflects on the human heart itself, what holy scripture has to say about the heart, and how caring for our hearts truly impacts the family of God.
Even in the family of God, suffering is a real and sometimes frequent experience. In Psalm 42, we see that steadfast hope in God and wondering where God is in the midst of anguish are held hand in hand. Being a part of the family of God does not exclude us from experiencing the depths of sadness. So then what does the family of God mean in times of suffering?
Living in Faith and Confidence
September 2, 9 + 16
Almighty and merciful God, in your goodness keep us, we pray, from all things that may hurt us, that we, being ready both in mind and body, may accomplish with free hearts those things which belong to your purpose; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
Dean Stephen Morris starts our series with this message: to live in faith and confidence, know that there is a plan that all of us are involved in and we strive to do our very best to live in the fullness of that plan.
Canon Thomas Williams discusses what it means to live in faith and confidence even during our most trying times.
Canon Paige Hanks shares that faith should not be conflated with feelings or intuition. What happens when we can't feel faith? Our faith is born out of God's love and of that we must be sure.
God’s Wisdom - an unfolding mystery
August 12, 19 + 26
Almighty and most merciful God, grant that by the indwelling of your Holy Spirit we may be enlightened and strengthened for your service; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
For the next three weeks we will explore God’s wisdom. Rev. Canon Ethan J. Cole offers a reflection on wisdom and human limitation. The scripture is Proverbs 8:22-36.
Wisdom is mentioned over 50 times in the New Testament. In today's video, Canon Thomas Williams shares four aspects of God's wisdom that scripture emphasizes: wisdom is pervasive, perposive, paradoxical and personal.
The wisdom we receive through God's Spirit offers a totally different perspective that changes what we value. Hillary Peete, Director of Christian Formation, reflects on God's wisdom as a practice and way of being in the world.
